January 2008

Long day yesterday.  Forrest was in an accident yesterday morning, and thankfully everyone is okay.  Our car, sadly, is not.  The adjuster is looking at it today, but we’re told by the body shop tech and the insurance lady that it’s likely totaled.  The only redeeming fact is that we get a rental car for the time being… or not, depending on your perspective.  I will say that I feel very sexay cruising around town in a periwinkle PT Cruiser.  Sexay for sure…. *sigh*

Colette,

It seems hardly fair that this is the first letter I’ve written you. I kept up with your brother’s letters just fine, but then again, there was only him. Now there’s both of you.

You are an entirely different child than your brother was. Not better, not worse, just different. You are the happiest baby I’ve ever met, cooing and smiling all the time. You radiate happiness and I can only hope that you continue to do so throughout your life. You’re also quite the observant little lady. You are happy as a clam to sit and watch your brother play. You study his every move, and quietly process all you see. I’m guessing you study things until you’re sure you have it and then put them into action.

A perfect example of this is rolling over. You were content to be belly up or down, no need to roll over. You didn’t try, you just stayed put. You observed your brother try to “teach” you to roll (at mommy’s encouragement), and then one day, you just rolled over. No warning… no multiple attempts… you just rolled over! We were amazed, and continue to be amazed as you roll around the floor front to back, and back to front until you reach the object you were after.

This past week, I pulled out the Johnny Jump-up to see if you’d like it. Your brother hated it, as he could never figure out how to work his legs to jump. You on the other hand, loved it. You bounced and bounced until you worse yourself out. That same night, you slept through the night… much to everyone’s surprise. Needless to say, we’ve been making sure you get a good workout in the jump-up every day.

You started solid foods this month. So far you’ve tried sweet potatoes, yellow squash, peas, oatmeal, and rice cereal. You readily try each, even if they taste a bit unusual. You aren’t quite the messy eater your brother was, which makes mommy very happy, as there’s less to clean up.

Another new thing this month is your giggle. You have quite an infectious laugh. If we kiss your tummy or tickle under your chin you regale us with peals of laughter that could soften any hard heart. You are happy… I know I’ve said that, but I can’t say it enough.

I love you so much little girl. I hope you know this, even if there aren’t as many letters or pictures of you as your brother, just know that I’m breathing every moment in with you and sometimes just can’t justify taking the time to write or even take pictures…. because time flies by so very very fast.

Happy 5 months!

Love,

Mommy
